Hello and welcome!
I write and partner at the intersection of identity, connection, and joy. I help individuals and institutions cultivate environments where people feel seen, supported, and can thrive. My work centers those furthest from opportunity whose stories carry deep wisdom, resilience, and power.
Welcome to Empowerment Insight Partners, the home of my writing and broader contributions to the field of education, including my forthcoming book, The Ascenders.
Keep rising. Stay grounded.
Kind regards,
Jarvis
About Jarvis
Jarvis is from rural Virginia, and his vocation is shaped by the lessons of grace, humility, and possibility he learned at home. He carries the wisdom of his mother, a professional editor for nearly four decades, and the quiet strength of his father, an honest mechanic, both of whose lives shaped his understanding of diligence, hard work, and integrity. His journey has also been shaped by his grandparents, his great-grandmother, and a host of family and community members who poured into him and always believed in his promise. Rooted in these foundations, he writes daily as a practice of reflection, healing, and becoming.
Jarvis is a valued voice on educational equity, belonging, and student success. He creates spaces where people feel seen, supported, and able to thrive, drawing from his own journey as a first-generation college graduate and his commitment to those furthest from opportunity. He holds a bachelor's in history from Virginia Commonwealth University, a master's in educational policy and leadership studies from the University of Iowa, a PhD in community research and action with a concentration in education from Binghamton University, and a certificate in creative writing from Wesleyan University.
Highlights of his career include:
Guided 30+ organizations through equity-driven consultation and coaching
Published 8 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters
Presented 50+ national conference presentations
Secured $900,000+ in grant funding
Managed $1,000,000+ in student success programs
Centered the lived experiences of rural students through award-winning research
An award-winning scholar-practitioner, he was recently honored with the 2024 Diamond Award from The Not Alone Foundation for his contributions to education and social progress. He is an active member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, and is known for blending storytelling, research, and compassion to advance equity, access, and opportunity.
